Yueyang

1.Yueyang Tower

One of China’s Three Great Towers South of the Yangtze River, Yueyang Tower has a history of over 1,700 years. Its predecessor was the military observation tower built by Lu Su in the Three Kingdoms period. The current tower, a three-story wooden structure with overhanging eaves, was rebuilt in the Qing Dynasty. It is famous for Fan Zhongyan’s Memorial to Yueyang Tower, whose line “Be the first to worry about the world’s troubles, and the last to enjoy its joys” has made the tower a symbol of patriotic feelings and noble virtues.

2.Dongting Lake & Junshan Island

Dongting Lake, known as “China’s No.1 Freshwater Lake,” has a vast expanse of water and misty scenery. Junshan Island, located in the middle of the lake, is a small island with lush forests and ancient temples. It is related to the legend of the Xiangfei Bamboo: it is said that the two concubines of Emperor Shun cried so much that their tears fell on the bamboo, leaving spots. The island also produces the famous Junshan Silver Needle tea.

3.Quzi Temple

Dedicated to Qu Yuan, a patriotic poet of the Warring States period, Quzi Temple is located on the Miluo River bank. Qu Yuan drowned himself in the Miluo River after his country perished. The temple was built to commemorate him, with traditional Chinese architecture, stone carvings, and inscriptions. Every Dragon Boat Festival, people hold dragon boat races on the Miluo River and throw zongzi into the water to pay homage to Qu Yuan.

4. Zhangguying Village

A well-preserved ancient village from the Ming and Qing dynasties, Zhangguying Village is known as the “First Village in the South of the Yangtze River.” It has a complex layout, with over 1,000 rooms connected by lanes and corridors, forming a maze-like structure. The village is surrounded by mountains and rivers, with ancient trees and stone bridges. The traditional folk customs and architectural art here reflect the life of the ancient Chinese villagers.

5. Miluo River Wetland Park

An important wetland ecosystem along the Miluo River, the wetland park is home to a variety of rare birds and aquatic organisms. It is a paradise for bird watching and nature lovers. The park has hiking trails and observation platforms, allowing visitors to get close to nature and enjoy the beauty of the wetland.

6.Mufu Mountain

A famous mountain on the border of Hunan and Hubei, Mufu Mountain has a long history and rich cultural heritage. It is said to be the place where the ancient emperor Fuxi lived and created the Eight Trigrams. The mountain has steep peaks, dense forests, and ancient temples. It is a good place for mountaineering, sightseeing, and exploring cultural relics.
