Baise, historically called "Goose City", is a prefecture-level city in western Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, at the border of Yunnan, Guizhou and Guangxi. It borders Vietnam in the south with a 359.5km border line and covers 36,300 square kilometers, making it the largest prefecture-level city in Guangxi. Known as the "Red City of Zhuang Nationality" and "Colorful Baise", it integrates revolutionary legacy, ethnic culture, karst landscapes and border charm.

History & Culture

Baise is one of the cradles of ancient humans in China, with human activities dating back 800,000 years. In December 1929, Deng Xiaoping and Zhang Yunyi led the Baise Uprising, founded the 7th Army of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army and the Youjiang Revolutionary Base, turning Baise into an important revolutionary landmark in modern China.

Baise is home to seven ethnic groups including Zhuang, Han, Yao, Miao, Yi, Gelao and Hui, with ethnic minorities accounting for 87% of the population.

· Buluotuo Culture: Sacred mountain of the Zhuang ancestor in Tianyang, listed in national intangible cultural heritage.

· Hei Yi Zhuang (Black-Clothed Zhuang): Most authentic Zhuang community in Napo County with unique folk songs and stilted buildings.

· Hydrangea Culture: Jiuzhou Old Town in Jingxi is known as "Hometown of Chinese Hydrangea" with an 800-year handmade craft tradition.

· Intangible Cultural Heritage: Zhuang brocade, lion dance and ancient folk music are well preserved.

Major Tourist Attractions

1. Baise Uprising Memorial Garden (5A Scenic Area)

Located in Youjiang District, it includes the Baise Uprising Memorial Hall, the former headquarters of the 7th Red Army (Yuedong Guild Hall) and monument. It displays precious revolutionary relics and historical materials.

2. Leye Dasheng Tiankeng Group

Known as the "Capital of Tiankengs in the World", it is one of the world’s largest natural tiankeng clusters. The main tiankeng is 613 meters deep with a primitive forest at the bottom and a thrilling glass viewing platform.

3. Tongling Grand Canyon

A spectacular karst canyon with primeval forests, underground rivers, caves and the 188-meter-high Tongling Waterfall. It is praised as "Guilin of Western Guangxi".

4. E Spring

One of the three famous springs in southwest China and the source of Detian Waterfall. With clear water, an ancient 15-arch bridge and peaceful pastoral scenery, it has a history of over 700 years.

5. Haokun Lake

Known as "Guangxi’s Nam Co", a beautiful plateau lake surrounded by karst peaks, ideal for boating, hiking and photography.

6. Debao Red Leaf Forest Park

Famous as "Paradise of Red Maples in South China". The maple forest turns bright red in winter, attracting many visitors.

7. Tianzhou Ancient Town

A cultural scenic spot showcasing Zhuang history and architecture, with cultural squares, intangible cultural heritage blocks and evening performances.

8. Napo Hei Yi Zhuang Custom Park

A place to experience original Zhuang culture, including folk songs, rice cake making and brocade weaving.
