1.Fenghuang Ancient Town Proper

A UNESCO-listed cultural heritage site and a well-preserved ancient town of the Miao and Tujia ethnic groups, Fenghuang Ancient Town was built in 1704 during the Qing Dynasty. The Tuojiang River flows through the town, with stilted buildings clinging to the riverbanks. The bluestone streets, ancient city gates, and traditional courtyard houses are full of ancient charm. At night, the lights from the stilted buildings reflect on the river, creating a dreamlike scene.

2.Shen Congwen’s Former Residence

The birthplace of Shen Congwen, a famous Chinese writer. The former residence is a typical wooden building in western Hunan, with small courtyards and simple interiors. It displays Shen Congwen’s manuscripts, photos, and daily necessities, showing his life and literary achievements. His works, such as Border Town, depict the simple folk customs and beautiful scenery of western Hunan, making Fenghuang Ancient Town famous worldwide.

3.Yang Family Ancestral Hall

A well-preserved ancient ancestral hall in Fenghuang Ancient Town, built in the late Qing Dynasty. It features exquisite wood carvings, stone carvings, and brick carvings, with complex patterns and vivid figures. The ancestral hall is a place for the Yang family to worship their ancestors and hold clan activities, reflecting the traditional clan culture of the local area.

4.Hongqiao Wind and Rain Bridge

A landmark building in Fenghuang Ancient Town, Hongqiao is a wooden arch bridge spanning the Tuojiang River. It has a long history and was originally a wooden bridge; the current bridge was rebuilt in the 1990s. The bridge has pavilions and corridors, where visitors can rest and enjoy the view of the river and the town. At night, the bridge is decorated with colorful lights, adding to the charm of the ancient town.

5.Huangsiqiao Ancient City

A well-preserved stone city built in the Tang Dynasty, located on the outskirts of Fenghuang Ancient Town. The city walls are made of stone, with a height of over 5 meters and a circumference of 1,500 meters. There are four city gates, and the moat around the city is still intact. The ancient city is a military fortress from the past, and its solid stone walls and simple layout show the wisdom of ancient military architecture.

6.South Great Wall of China (Xiangxi Great Wall)

A military defensive project built during the Ming Dynasty to resist the Miao people. The Great Wall stretches for over 190 kilometers in western Hunan, with beacon towers, pass cities, and barracks along the way. The ruins of the Great Wall are scattered in the mountains and forests, with stone walls and beacon towers still visible. It is a precious cultural heritage reflecting the ethnic relations and military history of western Hunan.
